Quick BBQ Soy Curls

YUM! If you haven’t tried soy curls yet, you’re in for a treat. I am the QUEEN of texture and soy curls just have the perfect, meaty texture in a whole plant food. That’s right, just ONE ingredient… soy. They’re super versatile and easy to work with, too.

This is a quick recipe—easy to throw together at a moment’s notice. It’s always a hit in our house. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 bag (4 oz.) soy curls (see notes)

  • 1/4 cup tomato paste

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 TBS brown sugar or pure maple syrup

  • 1 TBS soy sauce

  • 1 TBS red wine vinegar

  • 2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp chili powder of your choice, or more if you like it hot (I LOVE this one for its superior taste and fantastic color!)

Method

  1. Soak the soy curls in warm water for about 15 minutes.

  2. Drain, rinse and squeeze out as much water as you can. Set aside.

  3. Combine the tomato paste with 1 cup water and mix well. Transfer to a medium sized saucepan and add remaining ingredients (except the soy curls), and mix well.

  4. Add the soy curls and let simmer until hot and until some of the sauce has soaked into the curls.

  5. Add love. 💗

  6. Serve on a bun or just as is. They’re great with corn on the cob and cole slaw! They will disappear fast.

Serves 3-4. Enjoy!

Notes

When you’re measuring out your soy curls, choose the ones that are the largest and intact. There will by different sizes in the bag. You don’t want to use the tiny pieces, just the nice, big fat ones. 🙂
