Super-Q Chocolate Smoothie

In physics, “Q” is the symbol for heat energy or electrical charge. I’m calling this a “Super Q” smoothie because it will supercharge your engine with plant-based protein and superfoods! There are so many natural, energizing ingredients in this drink that it’s perfect for a fast start to a busy day.

I used brewed kukicha tea for this smoothie. Kukicha is pretty amazing. It’s known for promoting digestive and cardiovascular health. It’s very alkalizing and promotes both physical vitality and mental clarity. But you can use any black tea you prefer.

If you’re a chocolate lover (like me) you will love the rich, dense flavors that linger on your taste buds. VROOOOM!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup raw almond butter

  • 1/4 cup cacao nibs (or non-alkalized cocoa powder) 3 TBSP non-alkalized cocoa powder

  • 6 pitted medjool dates

  • 1 cup brewed Kukicha tea, cooled (or any black tea of your choosing—sub with coconut water if you don’t want any caffeine)

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened, plant-based milk

  • 2-3 kale leaves, thick inner stems removed

  • 1 TBSP vanilla extract

  • 2 TBSP flax meal

  • 2 TBSP hemp seeds

  • 1 tsp chia seeds

  • 1 heaping tsp cinnamon

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries

  • 4 ice cubes

Method

  1. Place the cacao nibs, almond butter, dates, and milk substitute in your Vitamix (or any high powered blender) and blend until smooth. The reason I add these ingredients first is because those cacao nibs can be a bit tough to break down and can add a little grit to the smoothie (not so pleasant). So you may need to blend them for a while. Adding the rest of the ingredients last ensures a smooth texture and a cold smoothie.

  2. Add love! 💗

  3. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Garnish with extra cocoa nibs.

Serves 2. Enjoy!
